At-Home Abortions
In light of this pandemic, quarantine has proven to inconvenience many people, with having to wait in long lines to go into your favorite stores and having to wear a mask whenever you venture out into the public. It has come to the point where even stepping out of your own home feels like an inconvenience. “At-home abortions” are now talked about more than ever.
To add to this, what if you find out that you are pregnant? Perhaps it’s unexpected, you’re filled with stress, worry and you just feel like this isn’t a good time. With COVID-19, it has become increasingly more difficult to make in-person appointments with your doctor. However, maybe you don’t have to feel inconvenienced at all!
You call a clinic and they inform you of the Abortion Pill. They might tell you that it is a “safe and effective way to end an early pregnancy,” while staying safe in your own home. Sounds pretty good, right?
But, what if you discovered that was not always the case? The Abortion Pill can be an unpleasant experience and may put your own health at risk. This isn’t a question of what might inconvenience you. If the proper safety precautions are not taken, this can be a matter of life and death.
In this series of three blogs, we will explain what the Abortion Pill is, what steps you need to take to ensure your health and safety, and why it can be dangerous. Continue reading to learn the full truth about this procedure.
What is the abortion pill?
The Abortion Pill is actually a two-pill procedure with risks and side effects. The objective of the first pill (Mifepristone) is to cut off the flow of progesterone to the pregnancy, while the second one (Misoprostol) is meant to induce labor. Some clinics may tell you that this is a very safe medical procedure while downplaying or minimizing the procedure itself.
What to expect with an at-home abortion:
Heavy bleeding with large blood clots (as large as a lemon)
Fever, chills, dizziness
Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
Heavy, persistent cramping
Lower abdominal, pelvic, or back pain
Fatigue and weakness
Many women are unprepared for the intensity of the cramping and the heaviness of the bleeding. Both last for several hours. Women are not often told that they will see and need to dispose of the remains of the aborted fetus. Some women have reported that they were not emotionally prepared for this fact. Experiencing this while alone at home can be very scary and overwhelming. Does this sound like something you want to experience by yourself at home? And what if it turned out you didn’t even need to have an abortion?
